Mylene Mackey

MYLENE MACKEY, LPC

I believe that a person is a whole being, with a mind, a body, and a spirit, and that often we are challenged in the balance and wellness of these parts of us. Every one of us encounters challenges and endures hardships throughout our lives that may upend the different parts of us that make us feel well and whole. Although we share this fundamentally human experience, no one person’s journey to find this balance again is exactly the same and in therapy we will gently and compassionately work towards you finding your own footing again.

Given the complexity inherent in every story, therapeutic treatment with me will be tailored to meet your particular needs. My approach is open-minded, creative, and compassionate and I use a client-centered approach, with the techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, mindfulness training, and Solution-focused therapy. I believe that skillful therapy requires a flexible and practical process that builds a strong therapeutic relationship between us and yet assists you in becoming empowered to know where you want to be and how you are going to get there.

Clients who seek my services are interested in making measurable quality of life changes in different areas of their lives. Whether it is a child, an adolescent, an adult, or a family, conflict can lead to behavioral problems, difficulty establishing and sustaining close relationships, and a loss of vision or purpose for one’s life. Emotional distress and conflict can create significant obstacles to psychological, physical, spiritual, and overall well-being. Psychotherapy becomes the process from which you will uncover conflict, explore barriers, identify options, and pursue paths of change for your overall balance and sense of wholeness. We will do this together, and I commend you for your willingness to do so.

I am bilingual/bicultural in Spanish, and I have worked in private practice, residential and hospital settings. I hold a BA in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Masters in Counseling from St. Mary’s University. In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas for almost 20 years, I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and I have specialties in Mind Body Studies, Behavior Change Coaching, and group exercise from the American Council on Exercise. I often incorporate gentle yoga and mindfulness based interventions with many of my clients to help them manage difficult feelings during sessions.

I believe in seeing you as a successful and happy person and working with me can offer you an opportunity to grow, increase self understanding and emerge from what may feel painful in your life into a more balanced and whole person. It is an honor to participate in and witness this process with my clients, and I welcome hearing from you.
